Set Up Email Address

Social Media in Plain English

Have Set Up Email Address, what next?

There are so many options once you have set up email address as to how you can get yourself connected in the Web 2.0 world.  With so much choice it is easy to sign up to many services, some of which may hold no relevance to you.

I recommend making a list of what things are important to you, taking criteria like the following into account:
- Do  you have a hobby or interest that you would like the latest information on?
- Do you want to use social media to promote your business or product?
- How much time do you want to spend on social media?
- Do you want services to help keep you orgnasied?
- Do you just want to have fun and make new contacts?

Once you have worked out what it is you want from the Web 2.0 world you can then make considered decisions about what you join up to and participate in.

In upcoming posts I will go over the above categories and list what social media may best fit these criteria.  In the mean time if you would like to get started, you might like to check out this simple video explaining the How To RSS Feeds.

Set Up Email Address

Web 2.0 is all about social media. What is Web 2.0 I hear you ask? Web 2.0 is a buzzword which describes the trend in the use of World Wide Web technology and web design that aims to enhance creativity, information sharing, and, most notably, collaboration among users. (Source: Wikipedia)

Web 2.0 is the evolution of web-based communities and hosted services, such as social-networking sites, wikis, blogs, podcasts, RSS feeds (and other forms of many-to-many publishing), social software, and web application programming interfaces.

Email is considered to fall outside the hierarchy of Web 2.0, but in many ways by setting up an email address you are opening the doors to Web 2.0.  If you want to set up email address and get yourself connected then it is also worth considering what other services does your chosen email service provide.

Some things to look for include when you are going to set up email address:
- storage, that is how much space in megabytes can you have with your email address?
- what spam prevention facilities does it come with?
- what systems does the email service have to help you manage your email?
- can you access your email online?
- does it have a feed reader to manage your blog and news subscriptions
- does it have an online shareable calendar

Set Up Email Address and you are on the way to getting yourself connected.
